Helen Barton
Helen grew up in the Midlands, where she developed a keen interest in the outdoors. She spent much of her younger years riding and caring for horses. She picked up a number of minor injuries along the way, which is where she first came into contact with manual therapy in the form of physiotherapy.
Helen’s first contact with chiropractic was when her older brother developed hip pain. After three years of on-and-off problems, her mother took him to a chiropractor who successfully treated him. Although chiropractic wasn’t her initial career plan, this stuck in her mind.
In 2003, she attended the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, where she graduated with honours in 2007. Over the last two decades, she has honed her skills treating people of all ages and backgrounds. She is passionate about tailoring treatment to the person and their lifestyle, and encouraging people to live their best lives.
Over the past few years, she has developed a keen interest in gardening. Alongside her son, she grows most of the family’s vegetables while keeping fit and mobile. She has come to the realisation that many of us can keep our bodies well while doing the things that bring us joy.

Luke Whatling
Luke grew up around chiropractic, with seven chiropractors in the family. Discussions about health, movement, and performance were a normal part of everyday life from an early age.
He has a particular interest in helping people improve the way they move and function so they can keep doing the activities that matter to them. That might mean helping someone stay active in the gym, move more comfortably on the golf course, continue gardening, or simply feel more confident in their body day to day. Luke enjoys building relationships with patients and seeing steady progress over time.
In practice, he uses diversified chiropractic techniques alongside neurological and muscle-based testing methods to assess how the body is adapting and responding. His approach focuses on movement, function, and helping the body work more efficiently.
Away from the clinic, Luke enjoys hockey, cricket, strength training, and spending time outdoors, usually working in the garden or keeping active.

Michael Whatling
Dr Michael Whatling, DC, CCSP, MSc, Doctor of Chiropractic. Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractors. Fellow of the European Academy of Chiropractic.
Born in England in 1957, Mike gained his undergraduate chiropractic qualification from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1981, graduating as ‘Best Overall Student’. After gaining valuable postgraduate experience in busy practices in Leeds and Derby, he founded Littleover Chiropractic Clinic in 1988, where he continues to serve as both owner and director.
Mike is proud to have been a participating chiropractor in the seminal multicentre Medical Research Council clinical trial (BMJ 1990; 1995), whose findings highlighted the unequivocal effectiveness of chiropractic treatment. With a long-standing interest in sports injuries, Mike earned a postgraduate certificate in sports injury management (Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner) from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1996, followed by a master's degree in Exercise and Health Science from the University of Bristol in 2003. His Bristol dissertation was subsequently published (co-authored) in Health Education (Vol. 107, No.5, 2007).Mike has worked at many major national and international athletic events, including as an attending chiropractor to the British team at both the 1999 World Veterans’ Athletic Championships and the 1994 European Veterans’ Athletic Championships in Athens. Closer to home, he has served as chiropractor to Derby County Football Club, Derby Rugby Union Football Club, and Derby Athletic Club. His practice continues to maintain strong sporting ties with the local community and is currently the main sponsor of Derby Hockey Club.
Although no longer working as many clinical hours, Mike remains actively involved in facilitating a smooth-running, friendly and patient-centred practice. He remains confident and excited about its future role in supporting the health of the Derby community. Mike’s three sons are also registered chiropractors, ensuring he’s never short of opinions about how to fix a clinical issue! His principal hope is that chiropractic becomes used in the treatment of an increasing proportion of people with muscle and joint dysfunction and pain syndromes. After more than four decades, his guiding principle remains unchanged: ‘the patient’s needs come first.’Away from the clinic, Mike’s interests include cycle touring, hill walking and Morris dancing.
